Yet further up the road was a pristine golf course right along the river.
I guess you could DRIVE to the golf course, but you obviously also have the option to BOAT there as well.
Across the inlet, more king-sized houses...
... and more space to dock your boat.
Just after the Tellico Parkway meets, US321, you cross over the Carmichael Greer Bridge...
... over top of the Tellico Dam.
I couldn't figure out what they were constructing across the river...
... but this movable platform seemed to have something to do with it.
I know what these people were doing... Who-Ha!
I had made arrangements to stay in Jellico, TN, for this particular night but since my ride had been cut shorter by not visiting the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway, I got to the small town WAAAY ahead of time. I might have stayed IF the motel's pool was open OR if they had laundry facilities but they had neither so I opted to continue on after cancelling my night's stay.
A quick look at the map and I soon headed north to Williamsburg, KY then onto highway 92 which went through Daniel Boone National Forest. I would have totally enjoyed this ride but it was drizzling, then raining, then drizzling, then raining. Regardless, I passed by many turns in the road similar to this one.
After going through Monticello, I headed west on 90 then north on 127. Two things about 127... (1) There were SOOOO many people selling things on the road, I was totally confused. "What the heck was going on?" I wondered. "It's not even as if it's the weekend... It's Wednesday!" WELL.,, it turns out that WEEK, was the 127 Yard Sale. People along 127 in several states place their wares on the highway for people to purchase. Check it out here.
(2) That road led me to this dam on the Cumberland River.
When I got to Columbia, KY, I was pretty wet and dirty. First order of business was to find a hotel. The Best Western was too expensive for my budget, but one of the clerks there was nice enough to send me to the Dreamland Hotel where I found a good room and a new friend, Missy.
The owners of the motel were very sweet. Here the wife of the owner is showing off Missy who they rescued from animal services.
Now that I had a place to stay, I needed to take care of my smelly clothes. I headed down the street to eat and do laundry.
I lucked out in two respects... (1) Seems Columbia (unlike most places in the area) is on central time so I walked into the laundromat just before they closed. (2) Jay (pictured here) was nice enough to stay at the laundromat to let me wash and dry my load of wash even though I came in so close to closing. That was at least 1/2 to 3/4 hours of overtime which is grade A nice, nice, nice! After I was done, I went to the grocery store next to the laundromat to pick up something to eat. All missions accomplished.
